Dr. Wolf brings to the team extensive research experience in areas broadly including computer networks, future Internet architecture, router design, multi-core packet processors, and embedded system and network security.

Institute IMDEA Networks has announced that Dr. Tilman Wolf from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA, has joined the Institute in July 2012 in the role of Visiting Researcher, bringing to the research team extensive experience in computer networks, future Internet architecture, router design, multi-core packet processors, and embedded system and network security.

Dr. Wolf’s current research is mainly focused on the area of computer networks, with a particular focus on how to introduce novel functionality into network systems and the overall network architecture. During his stay in Madrid, Dr. Wolf will continue his ongoing work on two main research areas. Firstly, he will devote himself to the development of future network architectures, where the aim is to make technological choices in the network explicitly visible to users and their applications, so that they may opt for the best offers. Secondly, he will work on packet processing systems, where he studies the design, operation and security issues associated to the processors that implement protocol processing on routers.

Apart from pursuing his own scientific interests and sharing his expertise, Dr. Wolf will join the Institute in various activities, such as mentoring young researchers, organizing scientific seminars, and supporting current research projects, amongst others.

Dr. Wolf is currently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA). He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis (USA) in 2002.

Dr. Wolf’s scientific track record gives testimony to a meritorious career. He has authored over a hundred peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and has served on the editorial board of some of the main periodicals in the field of communications and computer networks: IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and IEEE Micro, to mention but a few. He is co-author of the book "Architecture of Network Systems". Furthermore, his curriculum of scientific service includes his participation on Organizing and Program Committees for various conferences and workshops, including key venues for the diffusion of computer science and networking scientific results, such as ACM SIGCOMM and IEEE INFOCOM.

Dr. Wolf is a recipient of several prestigious awards granted by the University of Massachusetts in recognition of his contributions to raising teaching and faculty standards coupled with his outstanding scientific output. In addition, Dr. Wolf is currently lead principle investigator on the ChoiceNet project, one of five large NSF Future Internet Architecture (FIA) projects. His research has been supported by grants from NSF, DARPA, and industry. He is a senior member of the IEEE and the ACM.
