Global Communication Architecture and Protocols for new QoS services over IPv6 networks

The GCAP project (IST-1999-10 504) is definitively ambitious as the goal is to design and evaluate new protocols to support multicast, multimedia and multinetwork services at transport layer through a to be defined comprehensive API. Furthermore these new services are to be supported over IPv4 and IPv6 networks with Differentiated Services (DIffServ) Quality of Service (QoS) enhancements. A relevant objective of the project is to propose a design approach to rapidly deploy and use these new protocols by means of active networks technology. Besides the project will illustrate the feasibility and evaluate the potential of the advocated approach by conducting two European experiments using the national research networks and their interconnection.
