University Carlos III of Madrid qualifies as International Campus of Excellence

18 projects have been awarded funding and 9 the ranking of “CEI 2009” (Campus of Excellence 2009).
Nine projects coordinated by 11 universities will receive more than 103 million Euros to startup their “Strategic Plans for conversion to International Campus of Excellence”.

UC3M Campus de Excelencia Internacional 200926 November 2009 – The Secretary General of Universities, Màrius Rubiralta, and the Secretary General of Innovation, Juan Tomás Hernani, have made public today the resolution to the International Campus of Excellence call (subprogram A of the Ministry of Education) by which 150 million Euros in credits shall be awarded to universities to startup their Strategic Plans for Modernization.

After deliberation of the International experts commission that analyzed the presentations of the 18 “Strategic Plans of viability and conversion to International Campus of Excellence” which had passed the first phase of the call, nine projects, coordinated by eleven universities, have obtained the qualification of “International Campus of Excellence 2009” (CE! 2009).

The resolution considers that the following five projects "Barcelona Knowledge Campus", “La Moncloa Academic City: Campus of Excellence of the Autonomous Region of Madrid”, "Campus Carlos III", “UAB CEI: Support of Knowledge and Innovation” and “International Campus of Excellence UAM-CSIC” present a high potential to reach the level of International Excellence once the strategic Project presented by those universities has been put into practice.

In total, those five projects will receive funding for 73 million Euros to develop their plans, with the objective of placing themselves amongst the best European universities by 2015.
