Researchers at IMDEA Networks are working on a €4.6million EU-funded project called RECAP to develop the next generation of optimised cloud computing systems to support the Internet of Everything. The project will pave the way for a radically novel concept in the provision of cloud services.

Prof. Ioannis Stavrakakis has been appointed to the eminent role of Chair of Excellence by the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Community of Madrid. He has joined IMDEA Networks Institute as a Visiting Professor for a full academic year. He will share this role with parallel work at University Carlos III of Madrid.

ETSI has just released the results of its two-week NFV Plugtests™ event that took place from 23 January to 3 February at the 5TONIC laboratory in Madrid, Spain. For features such as network service on-boarding, instantiation and termination, 98% of the interoperability tests succeeded. For more complex operations like scaling and network service updates, very encouraging initial results were observed. The test plan, overall results and lessons learnt during the Plugtests are fed back to ETSI NFV ISG.

The NetIDE European research project concluded last December 2016 with a successful final demonstration, hosted at IMDEA Networks, of the technology developed during its three years of execution hosted. A panel of experts and European Commission representatives witnessed the demonstration of the main project achievements focused on delivering a single Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to support the whole development lifecycle of network controller programs in a vendor-independent fashion.

To assist with the deployment of the 3GPP standardized Mobile IoT technologies (NB-IoT, LTE-M, and EC-GSM), the GSMA’s Connected Living programme has launched the «Mobile IoT Open Lab Map», a unique resource which provides information on the operators, equipment manufacturers and associated technologies that are being developed in any particular region.
