The European 5G Infrastructure Association.

IMDEA Networks Institute has become a member of the 5G Infrastructure Association, a legal entity created by the European Commission and aiming to accelerate work on fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks for 2020 and beyond. This partnership initiative will lead the 7-year long European effort to produce and influence international standards for next-generation cellular networks, laying out the ambitious vision and research agenda.

He will be working as a Research Engineer from February 2014 in the team led by Dr. Antonio Fernández Anta, Research Associate Professor at the Institute. His main areas of interest are Computational Science, Natural Computing, Machine Learning, High Performance Computing and Networking.

During the international IEEE P2P conference in September 2013 in Italy, a team of researchers from Télécom SudParis, Carlos III University of Madrid, the University of Oregon and the Institute IMDEA Networks, published a scientific article on the development of P2P downloads in France since the Hadopi law.

Marco Ajmone Marsan has been appointed Director of the Alta Scuola Politecnica (ASP), in Italy. He heads an Executive Board consisting of 8 professors of Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino that oversees the activities of the ASP. His appointment was made official on October 2013 and will conclude on September 2016.

Institute IMDEA Networks has announced the launch of an ambitious project to map and measure the network connectivity and reachability of West African Internet over a three year period. Connectivity in the region traditionally suffers from high latency, high cost and narrow bandwidth.

Sergey Gorinsky, a research associate professor at Institute IMDEA Networks, and Syed Hasan, a PhD Student at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), published article "Trade-offs in Optimizing the Cache Deployments of CDNs" at IEEE INFOCOM 2014 (33rd Annual IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications), a top conference in computer networking research. The work is co-authored by Prof. Constantine Dovrolis, from the School of Computer Science at Georgia Tech (USA), and Prof. Ramesh Sitaraman, who is affiliated with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Akamai Technologies (USA). INFOCOM 2014 will meet in Toronto, Canada from April 27th to May 2nd, 2014.
