Abstract:

Wireless communication for intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) is a promising technology to improve driving safety, reduce traffic congestion and support information services in vehicles. A new era of vehicular networks that include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications is approaching. During recent ITS development, transportation telematics techniques have exhibited much progress, e.g., interaction between automobiles and the infrastructure for delivering services such as road-side assistance, automatic crash notification, concierge assistance and vehicle condition reports.

This presentation provides an overview of the research activities that are being carried out in the Networking Group of the Universitat Politècnica de València on this topic. First, a brief review of the area will be offered followed by the details on the approach the group is using and on the topics the group is particularly focussing into. The results and the future work from the cooperation with an industrial partner will also be described.

Who is Dr. Pietro Manzoni?

Pietro Manzoni is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the "Universitat Politècnica de València" (Spain). He received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the "Universita' degli Studi" of Milan (Italy) in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy) in 1995. His research activity is related to wireless networks protocol design, modelling and implementation.
