Joerg Widmer

Dr. Joerg Widmer, a Research Professor at IMDEA Networks Institute, is one of 20 scientists who have been awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award for outstanding research. Since January 2017 he is a guest scientist at the Department of Multimedia Communications of Tesnische Universität Darmstadt, in Germany.
Ignacio Berberana

Ignacio Berberana has become a member of our research support team. He will be working as a Senior Research Engineer from January 2017. He will be collaborating on various research efforts at IMDEA Networks as well as contributing his expertise to the 5TONIC laboratory. Since 5TONIC is continuously expanding its membership and activities, he will be providing key innovation management skills to promote the lab’s objective to create a global open environment for research and innovation on 5G technologies.

ICT standards are born after a complex process involving proposals, drafting, testing, reviews and evaluations, trials and errors, and much decision-making, all focused on building consensus across the board. Plugtests events are an essential part of this process. Revolving around a certain standard, Plugtests events allow designers of electronic equipment or software to test the interoperability of their products or designs with those of other manufacturers: a key step to finding the common ground necessary to achieve better product quality, increased safety, lower costs and happy customers.

Neftalí González Blázquez has become a member of our research support team. He will be working as a Systems Engineer from January 2017. His primary work will be for the 5TONIC laboratory. Since 5TONIC is continuously expanding its membership and activities, he will be providing essential technical support to ensure the lab’s objectives are met.
Research Prize 2017

Philipp Richter from TU Berlin has been awarded one 2017 IETF/IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize (ANRP) for a study done in collaboration with a researcher at IMDEA Networks. The study analyses a critical aspect of today's Internet: the depletion of IPv4 address space. Narseo Vallina-Rodriguez, who recently incorporated to the research team of IMDEA Networks Institute, in Spain, is one of the co-authors of the article titled «A Multi-perspective Analysis of Carrier-Grade NAT Deployment». This is the second time that a collaboration involving IMDEA Networks’ researchers receives this prize.
José María Lasalle visits 5TONIC

Mr. José María Lasalle, Secretary of State for the Information Society and the Digital Agenda, recently visited the open research and innovation laboratory 5TONIC, hosted at the headquarters of IMDEA Networks Institute, a top research center on networks that places Madrid as a leading European region in the development of future network technologies.

ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, launches today the first Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) interoperability Plugtests® event. This international event, which takes place from 23 January to 3 February 2017 in Leganes, Madrid (Spain), is hosted by 5TONIC Laboratory, with the technical support of Telefonica and IMDEA Networks Institute.  This important event comes hot on the heels of the publication of the ETSI NFV Release 2 specifications and the announcement of ETSI Open Source MANO Release ONE in October 2016.
