5TONIC and IMDEA Networks Institute announce that the students from the Master and Specialist degrees in NFV and SDN have initiated their laboratory training in the newly inaugurated 5TONIC laboratory located at IMDEA Networks’ headquarters in Leganés, Madrid. 5TONIC is a Research and Innovation Laboratory focusing on 5G Technologies founded by Telefónica and IMDEA Networks, and counting on the prestigious membership of Ericsson Spain.

Pavel Chuprikov is a new member of the IMDEA Networks research team, joining us as a PhD student from March 2016. He will be working in the Networked Systems Group, led by Kirill Kogan, Research Assistant Professor at the Institute, who is also his Supervisor in relation to his PhD which he will undertake at Steklov Mathematical Institute in Saint Petersburg.

The kick-off meeting for the NOTRE research project, known under the full name “Network for Social Computing Research,” took place from the 8th to 10th of February 2016 at the Social Computing Research Center belonging to Cyprus University of Technology. As an important partner in the newly started project IMDEA Networks Institute was present during the whole event, participating in the general research discussion and planning and sharing its innovative ideas.

Dr. Antonio Carzaniga from the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Switzerland joined IMDEA Networks in October 2015 in the role of Visiting Researcher, bringing to the research team extensive experience in mobile code, distributed configuration management, testing and validation of distributed systems, distributed publish/subscribe middleware, and advanced networking architectures. His research visit concluded at the end of January 2016.

The EU H2020 funded project MONROE (Measuring Mobile Broadband Networks in Europe) builds and operates an open, European-scale platform with multi-homing capabilities to run experiments on operational Mobile Broadband (MBB) networks. The platform will consist of up to 100 stationary and 150 mobile nodes, each connected to three MBB operators and WiFi. Initially, the nodes will be distributed in 4 countries: Norway, Sweden, Spain and Italy.

Researchers from IMDEA Networks Institute have successfully completed the CROWD* research project in the strategic domain of future communication and ICT services infrastructures. The European Commission has evaluated the project as significant beyond expectation, striking a very good balance between theoretical analysis and implementation.
