Dr. Joerg Widmer, a tenured Research Professor and the Research Strategy Manager at IMDEA Networks Institute, received earlier this month the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, at a ceremony held in Berlin and honored with the presence of the German Federal President, Joachim Gauck.

Adrian Loch, a Post-Doc Researcher at IMDEA Networks working in the Wireless Networking Group led by Joerg Widmer, has received the Best Dissertation Award for a doctoral thesis within the Computer Science Department at the Technical University of Darmstadt, in Germany. The award is given in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement in the area of Computer Science. Loch defended his thesis in March last year, joining IMDEA Networks immediately after.

5TONIC and IMDEA Networks Institute are pleased to announce that University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) has joined 5TONIC, the first laboratory of 5G excellence in Spain. Founded last autumn by experts from Telefonica and the research institute IMDEA Networks, 5TONIC exists as an open ecosystem for innovation and research based in Madrid, which also counts with Intel, Ericsson Spain and CommScope amongst its members.

An international team of researchers and engineers, including several members of IMDEA Networks, has won the Best Demo Award at WoWMoM 2016, the 17th International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks, which was held from June 21st to the 24, in Coimbra, Portugal.

Gonzalo Camarillo, Head of Data/IT Standardization at Ericsson and one of the distinguished members of the Scientific Council of IMDEA Networks Institute, has been appointed Chairman of the Internet Society Board. The ISOC is the world’s independent source of leadership for Internet policy, technology standards, and future development. Its diverse Board of Trustees is dedicated to ensuring the Internet stays open, transparent and defined by its users.

Amr Abdelnabi has recently become a member of the IMDEA Networks research team. He will be working as a PhD Student within the Opportunistic Architectures Lab, led by Dr. Vincenzo Mancuso and Dr. Marco Ajmone Marsan, faculty researchers at the Madrid Institute. His main areas of interest are Opportunistic Communication; Stochastic Geometry Application to Wireless networks; Cellular Networks; Wireless PHY and MAC Layers; D2D Communication; Cooperative Communication; Wireless Channel Modeling; Interference Modeling.
Qing Wang, First Prize Winner of the 1st China (Shenzhen) Innovation Competition of International Talents

IMDEA Networks Institute is proud to announce that Qing Wang, who obtained his PhD from University Carlos III of Madrid & IMDEA Networks Institute last May, became First Prize Winner (1 out of 155) of the 1st China (Shenzhen) Innovation Competition of International Talents held in Munich (Germany Division), in April 2016.
